Branding / Identity / Logos / Moving Image / Photography / Digital Album Covers

Here’s some work I’ve had the joy to contribute to that I’m proud to share. I’ve always enjoyed the use of technology in all my work at some point although most times, it usually starts off with a conversation and some coffee. Over the years, I’ve really enjoyed being comfortable with being uncomfortable at the start of the process… that usually means I’m on to something new.

Red Bull Music Academy (Singapore)

Communication Design / Community Outreach / Artist Curation and Hosting / Applicant Touchpoint / Creative Production + Press Relations (Cherry Chan)

The Red Bull Music Academy is a global music institution committed to fostering creativity in music. We celebrate music, its culture, and the transformative minds behind it. Begun in 1998, the Academy has taken the core principles that underlie its annual workshop for selected participants and applied this curatorial approach to events, lectures, and city-wide festivals throughout the year.

On the local front, I’ve been involved with the academy as the brand’s Mr X - A role to engage the local artist community to encourage signup to the academy as well as organising artist sessions with visiting musicians that are aligned with RBMA globally. The aim was to encourage and uncover the freshest talent on the scene to apply for the academy. Internationally, the academy has uncovered and supported artists such as Flying Lotus and Tokimonsta amongst many others. Check out the alumni list!

Musicity / British Council

Design and Branding Production / Artist Curation, Event Production, PR (with Cherry Chan) / Web & App UI Graphics

In collaboration with Musicity UK and British Council, we present Musicity Singapore – a location-based, curated, international platform/forum exploring the intersection of music, place, memory and experience.

For Musicity Singapore, seven local and two British recording artists were handpicked and commissioned to compose original music inspired by seven locations in the city.  Through a purpose-built mobile application, the original tracks were heard and downloaded by visiting these locations throughout September / October 2012.

Two of the seven Singapore recording artists collaborated with two leading UK recording artists. The four collaborators spearheaded events featuring live performances and conversations that seek to explore the ways in which artistic expression can be used to bring a new dimension to the way we experience cities, and the world around us. An interactive workshop programme, and talks for students and people interested in music was hosted by leading music artists from Singapore and the UK.

The Musicity project aims to inspire people to see the urban fabric in new ways, thereby encouraging them to explore the city musically, architecturally and experientially.

The Luxe Nomad
(Asia Pacific)

Identity + Brand Vision Guide / Web Design + Consultant / Design for Co-branding with Property Partners

The Luxe Nomad, Asia-Pacific’s leading luxury villa and hotel booking portal was founded by successful Asian model Stephanie Chai. Launched in July 2012, the site has also garnered much press coverage thanks to its affiliation with a number of celebrities and online influencers in the region.

As the brand expanded into property management, an example of an approach to extend it’s brand values to it’s audience came in the form of localised Villa guides with curated lifestyle content which tied back to their curatorial strengths. In addition, artisanal scents and toiletries where also created for select partners with local makers to enhance their experiences.

Writing The City / British Council

Writing the City is a literary arts platform created by the British Council Singapore. With a focus on writing inspired by city life, writingthecity.sg support a community of new, emerging and established writers who share their work, give and receive feedback, and get invaluable opportunities to take their writing forward. For 2015, Writing the City celebrates Singapore’s Storytellers with a series of filmed interviews and artistic book trailers featuring some of the city’s most exciting writers, as well as multi-award winning UK writer Bernardine Evaristo.

This series is presented by British Council Singapore in partnership with National Arts Council, National Library Board, Shaw Theatres, BooksActually and LUSH 99.5FM.

For this campaign, the challenge was to highlight local leading writers to a new audience. The idea was based around creating content that could be shared online using film as the medium. To engage a new audience, writers were paired with complementary visual artists that would communicate the writing through a creation of a series of book trailers that were also aired in cinema. Supporting that were interview pieces of the authors that were created to enable the content be shared in the future. In addition, Panel discussions were also arranged to encourage conversation about the topic of writing.

Logo Redesigns For Mediacorp Radio (Singapore)

CLASS 95 / GOLD905 / YES933 / CAPITAL958 / LOVE 97.2FM

Logo + Corporate Identity Kit

As the world of radio moved online, Mediacorp wanted to relook at the existing logos to give them a facelift. The approach was to give the stations more contemporary modern feel to it without losing the spirit. This allowed the stations to keep it personalities with it’s current audience and partners while allowing it space to move it in new directions.

Each project began with conversations with each station to find out more about their internal visions and goals before the redesign process. It was important to find a balance such that the internal feelings about their identity was maintained whilst meeting their future needs.

I’ve highlighted a couple of them below to share.

CLASS 95 is Singapore's No. 1 English radio station spinning contemporary music from the 80s to today's pop. Targeted at English-speaking professionals and executives between 25 to 40 years, CLASS 95's 'Best Mix of Music' has been a winning formula with its audience.

Gold 905 is an English radio station. It broadcasts classic hits from the 1980's and beyond. Their DJs include Brian Richmond, who has more than 40 years of experience in the radio industry and it is one of the nation's oldest stations.

YES 933 began as an 18-hour Mandarin radio station, broadcasting from 6.00AM to 12.00AM. Broadcasting hours were extended to 2AM in the early 1990s, making it the first Chinese radio station to offer music after midnight. It finally went 24 hours on 1 May 1994.

The Y.E.S. moniker was adopted in 1998. It is an acronym for Your Entertainment Station, which also translates to 顶尖流行音乐电台.

Here you can find some personal work :)

MACBA (Barcelona)

Photography

One word epitomizes the Barcelona skate scene (well it’s more like an acronym), and that acronym is MACBA, the Museum for Art Contemporary Barcelona. I am still not sure what the last A stands for. Either way this skate spot lives up to its name. One long smooth granite ledge stands at the centre of the whole thing, just calling your name.

Norient (Switzerland)

Photography / Design / Print

Norient researches new music from around the globe and mediates it multi-modally via various platforms. They discuss current issues critically, from different perspectives, close to musicians and their networks. Through the Norient Online Magazine, the Norient Musikfilm Festival, performances, books, documentary films, the «Seismographic Sounds - Visions of a New World» exhibition and radio programs we hope to orient and disorient readers, listeners and spectators.

For this project, I contributed a design piece which included my photography for an exhibition in Switzerland.
